The CRAFT Ontario Application and Selection Process
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The best time to apply is before February 8. Applying before this date gives you the best chance of receiving an internship offer from one of the CRAFT farms. Many CRAFT farms continue to accept applications after February 8th. Inquire with individual farms to find out if they accept applications following the deadline.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS: CRAFT Ontario is a network comprised of individual farms. Each farm has its own distinct internship with different living arrangements, work and training schedules, stipends, etc. For more information about internship details, see the CRAFT Ontario farm descriptions and contact the individual farms.
THE SELECTION PROCESS:
“I am applying to only one CRAFT Ontario farm.” If you are applying to only one CRAFT Ontario farm then skip the instructions below. All you need to do is apply directly to that farm before the application deadline and let them know that you are not applying to any other CRAFT Ontario farms. Your applicant-farm will receive your application and you will then go through the application process particular to that farm (this may involve steps such as a phone interview, checking references, a farm visit).
“I am applying to more than one CRAFT Ontario farm.” If you are applying to more than one farm then please follow the instructions below: Apply to each farm individually before the application deadline. Let each farm know that you are also applying to other CRAFT farm(s). Your applicant-farms will receive your application and you will then go through the application processes particular to these farms (these may involve steps such as a phone interview, checking references, a farm visit).
Once you have a sense of which farms you prefer then you must e-mail your farm-preference list to applications at craftontario.ca before February 28th. Your list should clearly list the farms you have applied to and your preferences as to which farms you would most like to intern at. For example, Jane Smith has applied to farms C, F and G. Jane’s email to applications at craftontario.ca might say: “Name: Jane Smith. My first choice is Farm F; my second choice is Farm G; and my third choice is Farm C.”. In cases where the applicant has no preference between farms the email might look something like this: “Name: Jane Smith. My first choice is Farm F or Farm G. My second choice is Farm C”. Or maybe your email would look like this: “I have no preference between Farms C, F, and G.” This email must be sent before February 28th.
You will be contacted in early March and informed whether or not you are being offered an internship. If you have any questions before that time then feel free to contact your applicant-farms directly.
