Chick-a-biddy Acres

back

Chick-a-biddy Acres is an 85 member CSA farm set on 72 acres of scenic Trent Hills pastureland, 30 minutes east of Peterborough.  With the help of dedicated and enthusiastic interns Chick-a-biddy has been providing members with quality vegetables, meat and eggs since 2000.  A number of our interns have gone on to start their own farming endeavours.

We are offering two interns the opportunity for hands-on learning in a variety of farm activities – greenhouse operation, field work, share organization and delivery, livestock care and market/retail sales.  The farm features 3 acres of mixed vegetables and rare breed livestock ( Scottish Highland cattle & Shropshire sheep) as well as pastured poultry, ducks, and laying hens.  Most of our work is done by hand, but there is a tractor and rototiller for field and bed preparation.  We make weekly trips to Toronto for member drop-offs and to participate in harvest events sponsored by the Gladstone Hotel, a multi-share member.

You will be part of a team working 5.5 days per week from May thru October.  Private room, kitchen facilities, library access and stipend provided.

For this 2012 season one of our long term interns, Josh Blank, will be running the farm as owner and operator Sherry Patterson takes a season off.  Josh will offer a similar learning experience that Sherry has offered and continue the farm operation as described above.

If you like challenging, meaningful work and want to increase your knowledge about sustainable agriculture and running a CSA please contact us:
