Circle Organic Community Farm
Circle Organic Community Farm (formerly Kitigan) is seeking two interns to help in the running of our 40-member CSA program and 2-acre certified organic market garden from April/May to October; we can be flexible with dates. We are located in Bailieboro ON, 20 minutes south of Peterborough, on a hilly 100-acre farm overlooking lovely Rice Lake. We grow a diverse range of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers, which we sell through our CSA program, as well as the Peterborough farmers’ market, a local food co-op (By the Bushel) and various restaurants. New projects for 2010 include plans to pasture chickens, expand our perennial gardens, seed saving and composting programs.
Interns participate in all aspects of the farm’s operation and will learn about garden planning, seed starting, greenhouse and fieldwork, soil building, organizing and running a CSA program, preserving and much more! We work 5 ½ days per week and offer a comfy place to stay, meals and a stipend. Interns have individual rooms in a separate wing of our farmhouse, and some meal prep is shared, so occasions to cook with the food we grow will be plentiful. There will also be opportunities to participate in public education with various on-farm events happening throughout the season.
Lastly, if it is of interest, we would like to help interns develop their own enterprise or project with support from the farm (e.g., a special crop, bees, worm composting, preserving, etc). After participating in the C.R.A.F.T program ourselves we were given the opportunity to start an urban agriculture project that evolved into Circle Organic, and we would like to share this offer with someone else who is inspired, dedicated and seeking more from the internship experience.
