Russet House Farm

back

Russet House Farm is 50 acre mixed farm with livestock, woods, pasture and an extensive vegetable garden that provides for the farm community and some local charities. The farm is solar and wind powered. We have two rare breed Kerry cows, chickens, and muscovy ducks. This year we will be adding to our small orchard and extending nut and fruit tree planting on the property. We have room for one or two interns, who will learn various aspects of sustainable farm living. The majority of work will be in the gardens, with additional emphasis on care of cattle and pastured poultry, haying, trail maintenance (in the woods), seed saving, and preserving food for the winter. Interns will also assist in preparing for and running work days and open houses at the farm, and a camping weekend in August, which focuses on sustainable living (along with campfires and good music). Housing is available on the farm, either in the large farmhouse or a trailer near the house. Meals are eaten communally. The farm is not accessible by any public transit. A car is an asset but not a necessity (the nearest small town is a 30 minute bike ride away).
