Tall Tree Farm & Woodworks
We are a small scale diverse family farm. We make Maple & Birch syrup in March and April; we tap close to 1000 maple trees, and market our syrup through a CSA and to local retailers. We have a market garden where we grow organic rare and heirloom open pollinated vegetables, we do some seed saving. We sell our vegetables at a weekly farmers market and are part of a local food co-operative. We have heritage laying chickens, a milking cow and calf, and will be getting some meat birds in the spring.
Self sufficiency is very important to us; we are able to provide food for our family year-round. This is a valuable skill we will pass on to our interns. You will learn how to grow and store food, as well as various methods of preserving food (solar drying, canning, freezing, etc) Milking a cow or goat by hand will be a daily chore, and making cheese and yogurt will be learnt, managing a yard of beehive’s, extracting honey, and working with animals on a small scale. We are looking for someone who is keen to learn, a good worker, doesn’t mind working alone, and wants to get there hands in the soil. Some of our projects for this season include; finishing our root cellar, expanding our berry crops, and training a team of oxen.
