Wheelbarrow Farm
Wheelbarrow Farm is located an hour northeast of Toronto on 10 acres of rolling field and forest. We grow mixed organic vegetables and raise heritage breeds of pigs on pasture. Our mission is to build an environmentally sustainable farm that participates in the struggle for a more just and equitable society. In 2009, we are partnering with “The Stop” Community Food Centre and East Scarborough Storefront through their Good Food Market programs as well as supplying CSAs (Community Shared Agriculture), farmers’ markets, restaurants and a grocery store(Karma Coop).
Interns will have an opportunity to learn about orchards/vineyards, permaculture techniques, beekeeping, animal ‘tractors’, greenhouse growing and everything else involved in running a small-scale mixed organic farm. Willo’ Wind and Wheelbarrow Farm are offering a shared internship program. Apprentices will spend part of their time at each farm. This will provide interns will a more diverse learning experience.
