Aubin Farm
Location: Spencerville, ON (45mins south of Ottawa, off Hwy 416)
Position: 1-2 full time interns with stipend, room & board

Background Information: Aubin farm is a mixed organic family farm located just south of Ottawa in the small community of Spencerville, ON. It is a dynamic place to work and learn the ins and outs of farming. Though it is not a certified farm all the practices from the herd of Hereford beef cows, to sheep, to chickens, turkeys, egg layers, flower production and our vegetable production follow organic principles. This 75-acre farm is equipped with two greenhouses (one large, one small), two barns, hay and pasture fields, a forest as well as 2.5 acres of vegetable gardens outside. Primarily a husband and wife team runs the farm, though there are 2 daughters who have grown up on the farm and show up occasionally to help out as well.
Position Description: The intern would be expected to work along side the family learning all aspects of the farming life, including our no waste policy leaving room for home preserving and cooking for the market. The schedule is determined by our marketing outlets including: a box delivery of vegetables to Ottawa in the middle of each week, the Brockville Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning and the Kemptville Farmers’ Market on a Sunday afternoon. Regular days of rest include Monday and Thursday, however, additional time off can be arranged in advance.
Tasks include vegetable production (planting, watering, weeding, harvesting), feeding animals, haymaking, some farm maintenance (building, maintaining and improving farm structure), planning, and involvement in the marketing of produce.
Lifestyle: Possible accommodations include an RV trailer or tent in the backyard. Meals, one of the most important and enjoyed elements of our day, will all be shared by the intern with our family, as well as the cooking and cleaning that goes along with them. Board and lodging will be provided along with a stipend of $100/week. A bonus at the end of the season is a strong possibility, as well as the option of a second year at a much better rate.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and energetic person who is interested in learning about farming and how we have built our business. A sense of humor and the ability to have fun while working hard are both great assets.
A valid driver’s license is required.
