Mariposa Farm

back

Mariposa Farm was established in 1980, having graduated from Agricultural school, I purchased the abandoned 107 acre farm. From there built all the buildings, barn, workshop, house and pavilion (restaurant and sleeping quarters for guests). The farm has several km of trails that are used to access the forest firewood and timber. In the year 2000 we purchased 70 acres beside to expand the farm.

We grow ducks, geese, cows, pigs, maple syrup, firewood and 2 acres of gardens. Our market is the restaurant market in Ottawa. There are no tractors as they were sold 5 years ago now all the work is done with 2 horses. We do get some custom work done by a local farmer (hay).

We are looking for one stipend person ($100 per week) including room and board, all meals with the family. Your hours are like mine from 8 to 6, five days per week. The option of living in a cabin (20 min walk from farmstead) is possible; there you can have your own garden.

You will learn how Mariposa works including our on farm restaurant, our regional meat distribution business to over 100 Ottawa restaurants and above and beyond, how we practice sustainable agriculture — horses, geese, pigs, maple syrup and large gardens.

We speak both French and English on our farm.
