Our award winning off-grid farm is going in to it’s 6th full season. We grow over 200 varieties of vegetables, fruits, nuts, flowers and heirloom beans and raise about 100 pastured chickens and have a milking goat. We’re slowly converting the majority of our land into permaculture crops including berries, grapes, a maple sugar bush, nuts, orchard fruits, and tree species with many different uses. We market through a 75-member CSA, the Carp and Ottawa Lansdowne Farmer’s Markets, the Ottawa Valley Food Coop, and several Ottawa restaurants.
Provided:
- Private lodgings (teepee, trailer or yurt)
- Shared delicious organic meals
- Full access to our big, beautiful off-grid farm centre that includes a community kitchen and eating space, extensive farm library, laundry and shower
– Transportation to CRAFT farm tours
- Opportunity to design your own personal farm project
- Mentorship and education in organic agriculture, permaculture and off-grid farming from experienced farmers
- Stipend (amount dependent on experience)
This farm runs off renewable energy. You must be prepared to live with a low energy foot print. This means we shower outside when the sun is shining and minimize computer use when it’s not, along with incorporating a number of other energy conserving living habits into your life.
We are looking for folks who :
- are emotionally and physically strong
- have a strong desire to learn about organic market gardening and off-grid farming/living
- can commit for a minimum of 6 months
- are excited about living with a like minded community of people and all that community living entails
