Becoming a CRAFT Kingston Farm
If you are an organic farmer in the Kingston area who currently hosts interns or is planning to have interns then we welcome you to inquire about becoming a CRAFT Kingston member.
These are the qualifications that prospective farms must meet to be a part of CRAFT Kingston:
- Be willing to improve your farming skills through farmer to farmer knowledge exchange (i.e. CRAFT days, workshops, farm tours, kitchen table discussions, etc.)
- Offer an internship program. The details of a farm internship vary from one farm to another, but all internships are based on an exchange that involves the intern’s labour and commitment and the farmer’s instruction, supervision, education, time and commitment
- Operate your farm according to organic standards. Organic certification is not required, but your practices must meet or exceed organic standards.
- Grow/raise food and sell/barter some portion of it for the local market
- Host a CRAFT day periodically
- Send your intern(s) to each of the CRAFT days and support them in getting to the farm
- Participate in the CRAFT farmers planning and evaluation meetings located in Kingston area. There will be two annual meetings
- Volunteer periodically on the CRAFT working group, which will take care of CRAFT administrative tasks
- Contribute a $100 membership fee to cover annual coordination and administrative costs
- Provide baseline data about your farm for CRAFT interns from other farms (basic farm history, acreage, brief description of production, cultivation, marketing methods, staffing, etc.)
