Freedom Farm
Freedom Farm
Greetings!
We are a small family farm going into our 3rd season with a CSA and market garden. We are looking for one intern to help us grow our business while learning about sustainable farming practices. Our 125 acre farm is located outside a small village on the sunny shores of Dog Lake near Kingston, Ontario. We grow organically and intensively on 1 acre, but are not yet certified. We also have a cottage rental business which we hope to incorporate into an agri-tourism operation.
Summer plans include erecting several small out buildings, a moveable greenhouse and cold storage. The successful applicant will be required to help with all aspects of our farm including planting, harvesting, marketing and maintaining a wide variety of vegetable crops. They will also be expected to share in the responsibility of the preparation of lunch and snacks and clean-up.
Hours are weekdays, from 7am-noon and from 2pm until 4pm. During the break, we often take a dip in the pond or lake. Saturday’s schedule is from 8 until noon. Sundays are for family!
We are looking for an intern with a good sense of humour, a strong work ethic and a keen interest in the local food movement. We hope they share our appreciation of beautiful, nutritious food.
Renumeration is a weekly stipend of $100 and a $500 bonus for lasting the season, mid-May thru mid-October. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Room and board may also be supplied in our home or cottages depending on availability.
To apply, send us a brief introduction and references to: three.cottages@sympatico.ca by March 15th.
