Sonset Farm
Sonset Farm is a diversified family farm located 14km north of Kingston, near Inverary. We have a beautiful herd of Holstein and Jersey cows and ship milk to Organic Meadow. We also raise grass-fed beef, pastured pigs, meat chickens and have a flock of 50 laying hens. The farm consists of about 650 acres where we grow hay, oats, corn, buckwheat, rye, spelt, and a 1 acre market garden. We direct market most of our products through an on-farm shop and a few local retailers in Kingston. The farm has been certified organic since 1996.
We are looking for 1 intern for the 2010 season, to run from mid-May to mid-September. As an intern on Sonset Farm you would be expected to commit to 5 days a week. A bi-weekly stipend of $250.00 will be paid. We can also offer accommodations in the farmhouse or in the cabin on the farm. Organic meals are included.
As an intern you will have the opportunity to be a part of all aspects of the farm including milking cows, making dairy products, growing vegetables, animal husbandry, working with tools and equipment (from hand tools to roto-tillars to tractor field work), milling flour, canning and marketing are a few examples.
Orrie, Andrea and Charlie Cumpson collectively have many years of farming experience. All three of us will share our knowledge and will continue to learn as we work alongside the intern.
