Our farm is a mixed income household. Janice is the organic grower and runs the B&B. Art works off the farm sometimes. Art and Janice operate a native plants nursery and are engaged in an ongoing land restoration at The Ark. Since 1998, we have been growing and returning thousands of native grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees to the farm that were stripped off in the days of a large gravel pit operation here in the 1950’s.

Learn about  homegrown veggie market gardening, hospitality and food preparation, native plants and passive greenhouse operation, heritage breed Canadien draft horses and Buff Sussex chickens, ecosystem restoration and sustainable living. Learn wildlife identification and habits.

We are an 110 acre farm, 8 km. north of Kincardine on the shore of Lake Huron. We have 5 km. of recreational trails on our property plus beach access which are enjoyed by both our B&B guests and us. We have a conservation easement in place on our farm. Our intern lives here at the farm in accomodation separate from the farm house (circa 1860’s). You work along with us doing the daily and seasonal chores of farm life. Driver’s licence is a must for getting to town and market and running farm machinery. We sell at the weekly Kincardine Farmers Market and to The Harbourfront Brasserie plus other venues through the summer. As you are the only intern here, we hope you are very comfortable with your own company yet enjoy engaging with our customers at sales events. We encourage you to meet our neighbours (both two-legged and four-legged) and join in the life of our community, a popular tourist destination in summer.

We hope you will use your own creative skills and talents to help us continue learning about the inter-connectivity of all things. We practise slow food. We have a good library.
