Drumlin Farm
Two positions for 2010
Drumlin Farm is in its third year of Organically-grown market garden. We have received our Pre-certification Organic Certificate from EcoCert and will be moving towards being fully-certified in 2010. We specialize in Heritage vegetables and fresh edamame, using the knowledge to consolidate the 75+ varieties grown in 2009. Fall rye has been planted in the remaining 44 acres – this section begins its transition to organic as of now, with a minimum three year process. By expanding windrows, through the planting of native pollinator wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, etc, this 44 acre portion will be cut down to 3 – 10 acre section from which Drumlin farm will start a crop rotation. The rotation will include crops that can tolerate drier soils (rocky, sandy loam), such as potatoes, tomatoes, corn, soy bean and more, with the third year being a nitrogen-fixing crop. We will be selling via farm gate sales again next year with the vision that a permanent building is in the very near future.
Drumlin Farm begins with indoor seed planting early March, the first hired worker begins April20th. We are looking for Interns (2) and a July/August employee for harvesting and weeding.
A background in agriculture is highly recommended, but a keen interest and high work ethic is even more important.
Requires manual labour; some mechanization.
