TWO POSITIONS REMAINING FOR 2010
Ignatius Farm CSA offers 7 internships to individuals curious and keen to learn about organic vegetable growing and community building. We have 2 senior, 3 full-season, and 2 short-term positions.
We are a certified organic 275-member CSA project, with additional vegetable sales to local businesses. Ignatius Farm also includes organic apple orchards, community gardens, and rented organic farmland. It is part of the 600 acre Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph, which includes a spirituality centre, wetland & natural areas, hiking trails, and a swimming pool! We are less than a kilometre from Guelph. Our 19 acres include 7.5 acres of vegetables and strawberries, with a rotation of grasses and legumes.
We are committed to making this internship a learning experience. The working hands-on internship is complemented by a structured weekly learning program, team building, active participation in the CRAFT program, and involvement with other aspects of the farm. Each week we either go on a full-day field-trip to another ecological farm in the region, or we set aside time to explore a particular topic on organic agriculture, such as basic botany, soil science, cover crops, crop rotations, budgeting and farm planning. Taken together, these education days lead interns through a structured curriculum in the Practices and Principles in Organic Agriculture.
