SW Ontario Application Process & Selection
HOW TO APPLY FOR A CRAFT ONTARIO FARM INTERNSHIP IN SOUTHERN ONTARIO
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
The best time to apply is before February 8. Applying before this date gives you the best chance of receiving an internship offer from one of the CRAFT farms. Many CRAFT farms accept applications after February 8th. Inquire with individual farms to find out if they accept applications following the deadline.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS:
CRAFT Ontario is a network comprised of individual farms. Each farm has its own distinct internship with different living arrangements, work and training schedules, stipends, etc. For more information about internship details, see the CRAFT Ontario farm descriptions and contact the individual farms.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Review the CRAFT farm descriptions for each regional node.
- Select the farms you are interested in and contact them for application details.
- Submit your application to each farm, according to their individual requirements.
- Schedule interviews/farm visits with the farms that have offered you interviews.
- If you have applied to multiple farms within the SW node of CRAFT Ontario, you need to decide your order of farm preferences, after your interviews, for the Selection Process described below.
THE SELECTION PROCESS:
“I am applying to and have interviewed with only ONE CRAFT Ontario farm in the SW regional node.”
Skip the instructions below. Apply directly to that one farm before the application deadline and let them know that you are not applying to any other CRAFT Ontario farms. Your applicant-farm will receive your application and you will then go through the application process particular to that farm (this may involve steps such as an on-farm or phone interview and checking references).
“I am applying to and have interviewed with MORE THAN ONE CRAFT Ontario farm in the SW regional node.”
If you are applying to more than one farm then please follow these instructions:
- If it is later than February 8th, disregard these instructions and inquire directly with farms directly to see if they still have openings.
- Apply to each farm individually before the common application deadline of February 8th.
- Let each farm know that you are also applying to other CRAFT farm(s).
- Your applicant-farms will receive your application and you will then go through the application processes particular to these farms (these may involve steps such as an on-farm or phone interview and checking references).
After you have completed all your interviews, two things can happen.
(1) If it is very clear to you which farm is your top preference, you may contact that farm directly and tell them that they are your top preference. If they are also clear that they would like to have you as an intern, then an agreement is made. If this happens, you need to contact all the farms that you interviewed with in order to tell them that you have accepted a position with another CRAFT farm. Please note that the farm you select as your top preference is under no obligation to immediately respond to your statement, they may choose to wait to see who else is interested in interning on their farm. If this is the case, you need to follow the instructions below.
(2) If the farm you selected as your top choice is not yet willing to immediately accept you as an intern without hearing who else may want to intern on their farm, or if it is not very clear to you which farm is your top preference, or if you prefer not to contact the farm directly, you must e-mail a farm-preference list using the ON-LINE SELECTION form before February 23rd at noon. On this form you are required to list the top three farms where you would like to intern, and must only include farms with which you have had an interview. You will be contacted in early March and informed whether or not you are being offered an internship. If you have any questions before that time then feel free to contact your applicant-farms directly.
