The New Farm
TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR FALL, 2010
The New Farm is currently seeking two interns for September and October 2010 to join our team of five interns already at the farm. Join us for our fall harvest, learn about our root-cellaring and winter crop storage, and become part of a great team.
The New Farm is a 100-acre certified organic and LFP certified farm on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment near the village of Creemore. We grow over 150 varieties of heirloom vegetables and raise laying hens, chickens, turkeys, ducks and pigs. Our interns gain hands-on experience in all aspects of our operation – from pre-season planning to greenhouse operations, crop and livestock production, harvesting and preparation, and marketing. We sell in the Creemore Farmer’s market and to many of the best restaurants in Toronto, and we are very involved in the local food movement in southern Ontario. Our interns work closely with our local customers, world-renowned chefs and local food activists. We have also developed a unique partnership with The Stop community food centre in Toronto, which gives interns an opportunity to get involved with The Stop’s groundbreaking work on issues of food security, urban agriculture and advocacy.
Our interns live in a renovated 120 year old schoolhouse one kilometer from the farm and have the chance to become part of the close-knit community around Creemore. We are looking for interns who are ready to work hard, have fun and take initiative as part of a young, energetic team.
