Cedar Grove Organic Farm
Cedar Grove Organic Farm is located in the rolling Kawartha hills between Peterborough and Lindsay — one of the twenty farms operating under the umbrella of Kawartha Ecological Growers. The 146-acre farm includes a 20-acre wetland and 30 acres of woods & bush. I grow and experiment with a variety of heritage vegetables, and seed-saving is a specialty. Three donkeys and a goat help with the work. I’m not taking any full-time interns in 2012, but instead I’m offering workshops on rhubarb culture (May & June), haying (June & July), and garlic production (August to October). The place was neglected and badly managed in the decades prior to purchase in 2001, and, notwithstanding my efforts to bring some life into a tired old farm, today still exhibits many characteristics of the abused and broken-down world that many of us know. The challenge is to make it work.
